The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office has announced the retirement of 35-year law enforcement veteran Jeff Berns.
“Jeff’s knowledge, wisdom, and expertise will be missed,” said Sheriff Dan Marx. “Winneshiek County thanks you for your service and we at the sheriff’s office, wish you nothing but the best in your next chapter of life.”
Berns began his career at the Decorah Police Department in 1990 before joining the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office in July 1992. He spent the past 32 years with the local sheriff’s office specializing in narcotics, special response team, and investigations before being promoted to lieutenant and later to chief deputy.
