The North Fayette Valley softball team made it four straight victories on the season Wednesday night (June 4) with a doubleheader sweep over UIC foe West Central.
In game one of the night, Alex Kent picked up the win on the mound as the TigerHawks struck for five runs in the home half of the first inning before extending their lead to 8-0 in the third.
The Blue Devils started chipping away at the NFV lead in the fourth with a pair of runs at the top of the inning before the TigerHawks responded with their ninth run of the game in the bottom of the inning.
West Central would add four runs in the top of the fifth and one more in the top of the seventh to make for a final score of 9-7.
Kadee Batterson, Lexi McGowan, and Kherington Johnson each had two hits as each player in NFV’s lineup had at least one hit in the contest while Sarah Dean (3) and Hannah Schroeder (2) led the way in RBI for the night.
In game two, the TigerHawks again got out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first before adding five in the bottom of the third.
West Central got its only run of the game in the top of the fourth, of which the TigerHawks matched with their eighth run coming in the bottom of the inning.
Sarah Dean and Ella Sieck each had three hits to lead the way with Dean’s three RBI and home run accounting for nearly half of the team’s run scoring for the game.
On the mound, freshman Kadee Batterson struck out five batters while allowing no earned runs.
