Peacock baseball wrapped up its series with Quincy on Sunday, falling by a score of 11-7 in game four. Upper Iowa shifted to 4-10 on the season and 1-3 in the GLVC, while the Hawks improved to 10-8 on the year.

Upper Iowa got off to a strong start in the first inning, jumping to a 2-0 lead. Bryce Hall put the team on the board with a sacrifice fly, bringing home Jared Grams. An error by Quincy’s third baseman allowed Brock Zimmer to reach the base paths, and Gunnar Wicklund scored an unearned run to give the Peacocks an early advantage.

The Hawks mounted a powerful offensive surge in the third inning, scoring six runs in the frame. It began on a fielder’s choice, driving in the team’s first run. After a two-run double and an error by Upper Iowa, the Hawks trailed 4-3. QU then capped off the inning with a three-run homer, putting Quincy ahead 6-4.

The Hawks added to their lead in the fourth, driving in another run on a single, making it 7-4. In the fifth, the long ball continued for Quincy, as a solo homer to right field extended the lead to 8-4.

Upper Iowa showed some life in the sixth and eighth innings, with Wicklund and Zimmer each driving in runs. Wicklund singled in a run in the sixth to make it 8-5. Zimmer followed in the eighth with an RBI single, pulling Upper Iowa within 10-7 after a Hawk triple in the seventh scored their tenth run.

Quincy sealed the game in the top of the eighth with a solo homer, pushing the lead to 11-7. The Peacocks couldn’t close the gap in the final innings, and the Hawks held on for the 11-7 win.

Grams, Wicklund, Zimmer and Paul Safranski each tallied two hits for the Peacocks.

Gabe Olson (0-2) took the loss on the mound after throwing 2.1 innings, allowing three hits and six runs (6 earned) while striking out three batters.

Upper Iowa will host its first action on Robertson Woods Field next weekend, March 14-16 against Truman State.
