The South Winneshiek softball team took on its second ranked opponent of the week on Wednesday as it headed to Fairbank to take on No. 13-ranked Wapsie Valley.
ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Freshman starting pitcher Bailey Kuennen kept things close early on as the rival Warriors grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but did not plate another run until the bottom of the fourth.
ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý In the fourth, Wapsie Valley extended its lead to 6-0 thanks to five runs as Kuennen gave up her spot on the mound to teammate Aubree Gesing. Gesing would close out the game without allowing a run.
ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý The lone South Winn run of the contest came in the top of the seventh when senior outfielder Britney Hageman launched her first homerun of the season to make for a final score of 6-1.
