WINTHROP – Winthrop Historical Center, 235 West Madison, is proud to have completed phase one of the “Bank†side of our building.
The original clock rail has been restored and replaced and we utilized the original 100 year old blueprints to recreate the bank counters and office. The new counters are on casters and can be moved in the hopes the room may be utilized as a community space for gatherings, reunions, and special events. Upcoming additions include a timeline, signage, and expanded displays!
The other exciting addition is the opening of our Hall of Fame! Our recently renovated basement is home to this exhibit which honors local citizens who have made significant contributions in their fields. Included in our inaugural display are:
- Rear Adm. Craig R. Quigley (US Navy Ret.). He served as the Dept. of Defense spokesperson during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
- Robert J. Gallery. NFL player for the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks. 1st Team All American and College Hall of Fame.
- Andrew Reed. Recording artist at Artist International, World Sound, Virgin and Universal Music Studios.
- Michelle Monaghan. Actress in Mission Impossible series and HBO’s White Lotus. (Just to name a few.)
- Sara Jane Carson. One of the first women to graduate from Harvard Business School.
Additional honorees will be added.
