A Bremer County ordinance, “Establishing Permit Requirements for the Surveying of Certain Parcels of Land in the County,” numbered , was sent out by the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, May 6, and is now in effect.

The surveyors need to get a permit from the Bremer County Engineer’s office to survey on private property with certain exceptions noted in the ordinance, according to a news release bearing the signature of Bremer County Sheriff Dan Pickett.

Violations constitute a county infraction pursuant to Iowa Code on County Home Rule, 331.307. According to the sheriff’s office, “Violation of the ordinance shall constitute a county infraction and subject [violators] to a civil penalty in the amount of $750 and $1,000 for each additional violation.”

“If a complaint is filed with the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office, we will investigate it and file charges as needed for the violations,” as per the news release Pickett signed.

Pickett declined to elaborate for this article, referring to the news release letter.
