In an effort to help local students from Waverly-Shell Rock High School have a nice prom night dinner, officials from the Waverly Senior Center are offering a special dinner with the theme “Night of a Thousand Lights†on April 5.

Jo Dorrance, the Waverly Senior Center’s marketing director, said tickets are on sale now for the “Prom Night Under the Lights†W-SR Prom Dinner at the Waverly Senior Center.

“A unique dining experience for W-SR Prom-goers will be hosted by the Waverly Senior Center on April 5. The fun begins at 4 p.m. with a photo station in the Parlor Room,†Dorrance said in a press release. “The beautiful Tudor home on the hill will be decorated in the ‘1,000 Lights’ theme and table decorations will be white and red with exquisite table settings, chair coverings, floral arrangements and candles.â€

Senior Center Manager JoLynn Redies said the idea for the senior prom dinner arose from the December 2024 Christmas on Main event.

“In December, we did the Christmas on Main, and it was an elegant dinner. Just top drawer. It was brought up then, ‘why not do an elegant dinner for the Waverly-Shell Rock prom?’†Redeis explained. “To keep (prom-goers) in Waverly and to keep them safe. Waverly doesn’t really have a fine dining venue.â€

Redies also said there will be ample places at the Senior Center facility — housed in a Victorian estate-like home — for prom-goers to take photographs, and there will be a photo booth, too.

The centerpiece of the evening, Dorrance added, is a four-course dinner which will be served by waiters in black tie starting at 5 p.m., allowing plenty of time to attend the Grand March at 7 p.m.. A local pianist will entertain guests while dining.

Seating is limited to 30, and any couples looking to attend should make reservations immediately. Couples and friend groups are all welcome. Tickets are available by calling (319)352-5678.

The menu for the evening includes: Wisconsin cheese soup; green salad with choice of dressings; a garlic stick; a main course with options of meat or vegetable lasagna or chicken Alfredo; and dessert of chocolate sundae in footed glassware; there will also be “Prom Punch†and coffee served.

The Waverly Senior Center is located at 506 E. Bremer Ave., just up the hill from the east side KwikStar. There is plenty of parking, and it’s handicapped accessible.

“(It is) a wonderful Waverly location for your pre-Prom dinner and picture taking. Make memories at the 2025 Prom Dinner,†Dorrance stated. “There won’t be another dining experience like this in the Cedar Valley with every attention to detail.â€

Redies said if the April 5 event in Waverly goes well, the senior center administration could extend the event to other regional high schools like Denver or Janesville high schools.
