A Waverly woman has been charged with several suspected crimes after she allegedly rammed a dumpster near a downtown Waverly building on Saturday.
According to Waverly police Capt. Jason Leonard, the incident happened at about 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 15. Leonard stated in a press release that Waverly police officers were dispatched to an area in the 90 block of East Bremer Avenue for reports of a single vehicle accident.
“Officers arrived to find the vehicle had driven through the barricades and struck a construction trailer and dumpster. The driver, who was the only occupant, was extricated from the vehicle and subsequently taken to the Waverly Health Center for evaluation and treatment,†Leonard wrote in the release. “Upon release from Waverly Health Center on the morning of March 16, the driver, Alexis Jean Bartels, 32, of Waverly, was taken into custody by Waverly officers.â€
Leonard stated that Bartels was charged with suspicion of operating while intoxicated, first offense — which is a serious misdemeanor; and suspicion of carrying weapons while intoxicated — also a serious misdemeanor.
“Bartels was transported to the Bremer County Jail. After her initial appearance before the magistrate, Bartels posted the bond amount of $5,000 and was released pending further court date,†Leonard added.
Waverly Police were assisted by the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office, Waverly Fire Department and Waverly Ambulance Service.
