A time capsule, which was sealed and stored in the Elgin Public Library since 2000, will be opened Thursday, July 10. The event will take place during the regular Elgin Historical Society meeting at 1:30 pm at the Elgin Museum, located at 221 Center Street.

The time capsule’s contents will be on display later that day when the museum will be open during Elgin’s Music in the Park. Interested persons are welcome to attend the capsule’s opening or stop in later in the day/evening to view the historical items.

If anyone has an item to place in a new time capsule, they may share it with any Elgin Historical Society member.
