Upper capped off the indoor track season by placing 12th at the GLVC Championships. Seven Peacocks competed in five events, garnering five team points.
Haylie Hutchinson led the way for the Peacocks, as she took fifth place in the triple jump. She posted a season-high mark of 10.97 on her final attempt as she secured four points for the Peacocks. Hutchinson’s 10.97m jump set a new school record as she bested her previous school record of 10.91m which she set last season. She followed that up with a ninth-place finish in the 60m hurdles prelims, where she recorded another season-best with a time of 9.32. Jordan Sekafetz finished 16th in the 60m hurdles prelims, also putting up a season-best time of 9.77.
Hutchinson, alongside Jillian Dodds, Jasheana Tracey and Eryn Sabelka added an eighth-place finish in the 4x400m relay. The squad recorded a season-best time of 4:10.03 where they added Upper Iowa’s final point at the GLVC Championships.
Kiana Maghanoy also achieved her personal best throw of the season in the weight throw, as she placed 13th with a mark of 14.52m. Myah Brinker added a 16th place finish with a 13.93m throw and she posted a season-high mark of 11.74m in the shot put to take 12th place.
Lewis soared over the competition as they achieved 182.5 team points to place first overall. Lincoln came in second with 113 team points and Indianapolis rounded out the top three with a total of 101 team points.
UIU’s outdoor season will begin at the Emporia State Relays in Emporia, Kan. The three-day-event will be held on Thursday, Mar. 27 through Saturday, Mar. 29 at times that are yet to be determined.
