Multiple charges filed after accident

A West Union man faces multiple charges after a one vehicle accident Tuesday, May 27. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a 911 call at approximately 7:25 a.m. of a blue 2009 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado truck in the ditch along Highway 150, near 118th Street, approximately three miles south of Fayette.

After further investigation, it was found that the driver, Dale Patrick Winter, was traveling northbound when the truck went into the west ditch and into a small creek. The truck received minimal damage. Additionally, it was reported that the injured driver had fled the scene.

Shortly after the report, deputies were on scene and put a drone in the air. Winter was located hiding behind trees and was apprehended. The 58-year-old was found in possession of illegal substances and was arrested.

Winter was charged with third/subsequent possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, a class D felony; third/subsequent possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, an aggravated misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor; possession with intent to deliver, a class B felony; third offense operating while intoxicated, a class D felony; failure to maintain control, a simple misdemeanor.

Winter was treated for his injuries and transported to the Fayette County Jail.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Fayette Ambulance, Fayette Fire Department, and Maynard Fire Department during this incident.

Later, on Sunday, June 1, a search warrant was executed at Willow Street in West Union. During the search, illegal items were found and seized. Subsequently, Winter, 58, was arrested and charged with third offense possession of controlled substance-methamphetamine, a class D felony; third offense of a controlled substance-marijuana, an aggravated misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

Winter was placed in the Fayette County Jail on a $25,000 cash or surety bond, and awaited an initial appearance from a magistrate judge.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, Winter was arrested again Monday, June 2, by a deputy on a parole violation. Winter is currently being held in the Fayette County Jail on a no bond hold.

Driver’s license suspended

A Fayette County Sheriff’s deputy witnessed Roger A. Steadman, 58, of West Union operating a vehicle on South Mill Street in Wadena at approximately 3:55 a.m. Friday, May 23. A check by the deputy revealed that Steadman’s driver’s license was suspended multiple times for failing to satisfy Iowa fines.

Steadman was arrested and transported to the Fayette County Jail, where he was held awaiting his initial appearance.

Arrested on warrant

A Fayette County Sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop at approximately 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, on a silver 2006 Nissan Pathfinder for a traffic infraction on King Road near Lincoln Road, approximately five miles north of West Union.

After further investigation, the driver was identified as William George Hruska Jr., 44, of Lawler. Hruska Jr. was found to have a valid Winneshiek County warrant for his arrest for third degree burglary, a class D felony.

Hruska Jr. was arrested and transported to the Fayette County Jail before being transported to the Winneshiek County Jail.

Additionally, after deployment of a K9, a search warrant was executed on the Nissan and illegal items were seized.

This incident is still pending further investigation.

OWI charge

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received report at approximately 3:10 a.m. Saturday, May 24, of a vehicle driving all over the road on K Avenue, while approaching Highway 3.

A Fayette County Sheriff’s deputy responded and located the vehicle on Highway 3 near the intersection of K Avenue.

Upon investigation Kaleb Riley Dripps, 25, of Oelwein was arrested and transported to the Fayette County Jail. Dripps was charged with driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway and first offense operating while intoxicated.
