North Fayette Valley’s cross country teams competed at the Jesup Invitational Tuesday, Sept. 30, as the TigerHawks battled a combined 14 ranked teams across classes 1A, 2A and 3A.
Boys
NFV junior Elmer Trinidad set the pace for the boys as he finished 29th with a time of 18:04.5. He was joined by Robert Huck (58th, 18:56.8) and Alexander Mueller (64th, 19:05.8) at the top of the TigerHawk scoresheet. Other runners who contributed to the team score of 286 included Peyton Elliott (85th, 19:37.2) and Esten Moellering (90th, 19:57).
Rounding out the varsity lineup were Gabe Stansbery in 97th (20:12.1) and Brody Grove in 102nd (20:20.0).
Class 2A No. 2-ranked Denver took first overall with 85 points, just one spot lower than runner-up Oelwein (Class 2A, No. 4). Rounding out the top three was Class 2A No. 9-ranked Waukon with 134. North Fayette Valley finished 11th in the field of 20 teams.
Girls
Up against a field which featured 10 ranked teams, the TigerHawk girls came home with a 14th place finish with 332 points as Center Point-Urbana (Class 3A, No. 17) was first with 68 points.
Leading the effort for NFV were a pair of top 50 individuals, including Lexi McGowan in 23rd (21:39.6) and Annie Murray in 49th (22:47.9).
Clara Bilden finished 85th in 24:05.5, while Lydia Van Gelder was 99th in 25:02.1 and Kendall Elliot was 105th in 25:34.4. Other runners for the TigerHawks included Alivia Mueller in 111th (25:46.3) and Tristan Kuhse in 123rd (27:03.6).
Taking runner-up in the team standings was Class 2A’s No. 14th ranked Grundy Center with 136, while the top-ranked squad in Class 1A Sumner-Fredericksburg finished third with 167.
