The TigerHawk softball team hosted 16 area teams at the two-day NFV Softball Classic tournament on Friday and Saturday in West Union. North Fayette Valley took on Charles City, Maquoketa, Crestwood, and Waverly-Shell Rock over the weekend as they went 0-4 to fall to 4-5 on the season.

Charles City

The TigerHawks started the day Friday with a 12-4 loss to a tough Charles City squad as the Comets jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top of the first, but the TigerHawks responded with a four-run bottom half of the inning to hold the early advantage.

The Comets would go on to retake the lead in the top of the second with four runs of their own as they would but up a combined 11 runs over the next four innings to get the 12-4 victory and give the TigerHawks their first loss since their season opener.

NFV had a pair of extra base hits as Alex Kent notched a triple in the first inning and Hannah Schroeder recorded a double.

Maquoketa

The TigerHawks dropped their second game of the day Friday by a score of 6-5 in extra innings.

While the inning-by-inning totals did not add up according to Varsity Bound, NFV and Maquoketa went to the eighth inning tied at 5-5 before the Cardinals were able to plate the winning run in the top of the eighth as the TigerHawks were unable to score in the bottom half of the inning.

Alice Sass led the way with a pair of hits, while Sarah Dean had a home run and three RBI in the loss.

North Fayette Valley got day two of the tournament started with a tough 8-3 loss to Crestwood as the Cadets got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

Crestwood notched two more runs in the top of the fifth before extending its lead to 8-0 in the top of the sixth before NFV was able to get three in in the bottom of the sixth.

Waverly-Shell Rock

The TigerHawks closed out the NFV Softball Classic Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 loss to Waverly-Shell Rock.

The Go-Hawks got on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning with four runs before adding three in the fifth inning and two more in the top of the seventh to drop the TigerHawks to 4-5 on the season.
