The Wapsie Valley girls’ cross country team had a spectacular showing at the state meet on Saturday. The Warrior girls placed 14th with 287 points.
Starmont West Central’s Lauren Krogmann capped off her phenomenal 2025 season on the sport’s biggest stage with a third-place overall finish and a personal best time.
Adalyn Kane was the first Warrior to cross the finish line with her time of 21:23.4 putting her in 73rd place out of 158 competitors. Ava Meyer crossed in 22:00.5 placing her in 96th. Brinley Boehme ran the course in 22:28.0 for a 113th place finish. Maya Barnes placed 117th with a time of 22:37.4, while Amy Schutte (22:45.0) placed 121st. Rounding out the competitors for Wapsie Valley were Adelynn Wierck (23:02.9) in 132nd place and Miriam Rulapaugh (24:21.1) in 148th place.
Wapsie Valley head coach Justin Davie summed up his team’s accomplishments. “We ended the season on a tear. The girls really came together those last three weeks or so. We ran well and it’s state so you get everyone’s best. I was happy with our effort and in how prepared the girls were. The race marks the end for three seniors (Maya Barnes, Miriam Rulapaugh and Adelynn Wierck) that never finished outside the top three in districts and made it to state in back-to-back years.”
Starmont West Central’s Krogmann proved she is among the elite runners in the state with her third-place finish at the meet. The top-flight competition pushed her to a personal record time of 18:34.6, shaving nearly seven seconds off her previous best. Her teammate, Carley Rosburg, finished with an impressive time of 20:36.2, putting her in 39th place overall.
Jagger Timmerman and Caleb Pinion of Starmont West Central also competed with the cream of the crop Saturday in the boys’ race. Timmerman’s time of 18:08.2 put him in 83rd place out of 152 runners while Pinion’s time of 18:43.6 put him in 121st place overall.
