CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Coe College football team secured its second straight nine-win season on Saturday afternoon at Clark Field, defeating the Simpson College Storm 47-10 in the regular-season finale.
The Kohawks shook off a slow opening quarter where they were held scoreless, responding with 19 points in the second quarter and 21 points in the third. Trenton Barnes found the endzone twice in the second quarter while Jeron Senters scored on a 30-yard reception to help give Coe a 19-3 lead at the break.
Devon Kollasch had Coe’s play of the game for the first score of the third quarter, taking a short third-down screen pass for a 90-yard touchdown. The defense and special teams joined in on the party for the next two touchdowns of the quarter as Jack Clarahan recovered a misplayed punt and returned it for a three-yard touchdown.
Henry Ryan put an exclamation mark of the scoring in the third, picking off a pass for a 39-yard touchdown on the ensuing Storm drive. Coe’s offense added one final score in the fourth quarter, striking again for an explosive play as freshman Tre’sean Cunningham scored a 65-yard touchdown.
Simpson got some consolation before the final whistle blew, scoring its lone touchdown against Coe’s second and third-string defensive unit with less than two minutes to play. Coe’s defense held the Storm to just 39 yards on 24 rushing attempts and picked off a pair of passes. Kollasch finished with 167 receiving yards and one score, marking the 13th-highest total in Kohawk history.
