INDEPENDENCE – In recognition of the young students who will make a difference in our world in the future, we wanted to recognize one who we feel will do just that. This young lady is amazing in all that she has done during her four years at Independence High School. With young people like this who will be our future leaders, it makes us feel a lot better knowing they are coming!
As we read the resume of one of this year’s graduates, Reaghan L. Ressler, was chosen as this year’s “Student Who Makes a Difference†award recipient. Her school involvement includes National Honor Society and Silver Cord, where she accumulated 280 hours of volunteer service. She tutors a 7th Grader at the Junior High School and a 1st Grader at the Elementary school and helps with vacation bible school for the past three summers.
Reaghan works at the nursey on Sundays at First Presbyterian Church, been a timer at swim meets for four years, rang the bell for the Salvation Army for three years, helped coach 6th Grade girls basketball this past winter, all while working at Scooters!
Reaghan also runs track, why not, after all you need to relax after a full day of school. Ran cross country for four years on varsity, five times state qualifier and a Drake qualifier one year, WaMaC Academic All-conference junior and senior in cross country and WaMaC Academic All-Conference her junior year in track. Then add in WaMaC All-Conference in Basketball her senior year.
Reaghan ranks at the top of her class with a 4.0 GPA and has completed 12 college courses earning 36 credits towards her degree. Reaghan is still involved with the National Honor Society, Student Council and Silver Cord.
Reaghan plans on attending the University of Iowa and pursue a degree in accounting.

We have applied for a grant for the Mustang Mentoring program. We believe this is a wonderful program and are happy to help with some funding!
Several weeks ago, we presented a check to Pam Wendel, ICSD Director of Food Service, to help make sure all students will have a good hot lunch. On Monday, May 5 we will be bussing tables at Pizza Ranch. All donations will be presented to the school hot lunch program so we can continue to help!
