FAYETTE — Two persons were seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision southeast of Fayette shortly before 2 p.m. Monday, June 9.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident at 1:49 p.m. at the intersection of Kornhill Road and J Avenue, just south of the Fayette County Solid Waste Transfer Station, approximately two miles southeast of Fayette.
Deputies and responders arrived to find the two vehicles in the southeast ditch. One, a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan, had rolled and landed on its top and the other, a 2015 Toyota Corolla, was upright.
Sheriff’s deputies reported their investigation revealed Chylie Feuerhelm, 18, of Farmersburg, was driving the Corolla south onto J Avenue when she ran the stop sign and collided with the eastbound van driven by Melissa Shea, 43, of Wadena.
Both drivers were transported to Gundersen Palmer Hospital in West Union with serious injuries. Feuerhelm was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Fayette Ambulance, West Union Fire Department and the Fayette Fire Department.
