ROWLEY – Abby Johnson, daughter of Andrew and Amanda Johnson, has completed a key project on her way to becoming an Eagle Scout.

Since January 2024 Abby, a member of Troop 75, worked with the Rowley Community Club and the City Council gathering ideas for design and locations.

The biggest lesson from the project was learning to communicate and organize different groups (clients, vendors, volunteers) to work together toward the same goal.

Among the vendors she worked with were Signs and More of Independence, The Lawn Father (Bruce Wright) of Brandon, and Electrician Bo Peyton.

The sign is on Grande Avenue as you enter Rowley. It features a standalone solar panel with LEDs to light the sign at night and is surround by stone landscaping.

The City paid for half the $4,200 cost and the rest came from donations.

“Do something you want to do,†said Abby, as advice to other potential Eagle Scouts in selecting a project.

Abby will be a Senior this fall at the Independence Jr/Sr High with plans to attend the University of Iowa.
