WINTHROP — The Buccaneer baseball program picked up a Class 2A win on Tuesday against Waukon, 11-5.
The Bucs put up 12 hits against the Warriors (5-10), seven of them in the first two innings.
Senior Will Hansen drove in two with a single to start the scoring in the first. Trey Cornell and Brady Van Scoyoc drove in a run apiece to give the Bucs a 4-0 lead.
East Buchanan (12-4) scored six runs in the second inning to break it open. Kyle Peck and Keenan Pals both scored off a double from Tristan Cornell.
With bases loaded and a 0-2 pitch count, Van Scoyoc sent one over the left fence for a grand slam.
He went 4 for 4 on the night, driving in six of the Bucs’ 11 runs. Six players each got at least one hit and Tristan and Hansen each drove in two. East Buchanan hit .414 (12 for 29),
Hansen scored the 11th run in the fourth off a single from Van Scoyoc.
Hansen picked up the win on the mound, allowing no hits and striking out seven in four innings pitched. He also scored three runs and stole three bases.
An error led to the Warriors scoring their first run, before putting up another on a sacrifice fly to make the score 11-2. Waukon scored five runs in the final three innings.
East Buchanan followed with an 8-1 win at Midland on Thursday in Wyoming.
Van Scoyoc went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Five players collected an RBI as the Bucs hit .385 (10 for 26) with five walks and two hit batters.
They stole five bases, with three from Brady Hogan. Tristan Cornell went 2 for 4 and Camden Long scored twice.
Van Scoyoc struck out 11 in 6 2/3 innings, with five hits allowed and two hit batters.
