Hawkeye pursuit

The car involved in the Hawkeye pursuit was eventually corraled after the driver crashed it on the edge of town.

A Waterloo man was arrested on various moving violation charges Thursday, April 24, after leading a Fayette County Deputy on a pursuit through Hawkeye and into the country.

At 4:41 p.m. a Fayette County Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on silver Nissan Sentra in the city of Hawkeye. The driver of the Nissan was identified as Ashton Charles Swanson, 21, of Waterloo, fled from the deputy leading to a short pursuit. Multiple attempts were made by the deputy to safely disable the vehicle and end the pursuit. Swanson continued to flee until he eventually crashed the motor vehicle. Swanson was taken into custody and transported to the Fayette County Jail. He is charged with operating a vehicle without owner’s consent (aggravated misdemeanor), eluding – 25 mph over the posted limit (felony), driving while license suspended, reckless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, multiple stop sign infractions, speeding infractions and failure to maintain control. This incident remains under investigation and more charges are pending. Swanson sustained minor injuries during the accident. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Gundersen Ambulance Service.
