A Waterloo teen sustained incapacitating injuries following a collision with a tree Monday night in Fayette.

The Iowa State Patrol Post 10 responded to the accident at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Klock Road north of Grandview Cemetery, near Fayette southern city limits. Malachi Hoeppner, 18, of Waterloo was driving north on Klock Road. As he rounded a slight curve in the road, he told the state trooper he blacked out and ran off the road, striking a tree. The silver 2008 Toyota RAV SUV he was driving sustained approximately $10,000 in damages and is considered a total loss.

According to the State Patrol report, Hoeppner sustained suspected serious injuries in the crash. He was transported by Fayette Ambulance to Gundersen Palmer Hospital in West Union.

Hoeppner is being charged with failure to maintain control and no valid driver’s license.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies also assisted at the scene.
