The Waverly City Council on Monday, April 7, unanimously approved the city’s 2025-2026 fiscal year proposed budget after a brief public hearing during which no members of the public spoke.

The Waverly Newspapers accepts submissions to the Community Calendar via email. Please send in events to be listed at least three weeks in advance of the date of the event. Submissions should be typed into the body of an email and sent to editor@waverlynewspapers.com. Please do not capitalize every word. Wednesday, April 16

• The Waverly Senior Center is hosting two events: at 9 a.m., Seniors in Motion exercise class, and at 1 p.m., the WSC Book Club meeting. The Waverly Senior Center is located at 506 E. Bremer Ave.

Thursday, April 17

• The Shell Rock American Legion auxiliary will meet on Thursday, April 17, at 9:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Shell Rock. (Please note change of location.) Hostesses Jean Cain and Carol Ann Kruse.

• On Thursday, April 17, from 1:30-3 p.m., the Waverly Health Center Parkinson’s Support Group is scheduled to meet. The support group is free and open to all. Meetings are on the third Thursday of every month from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Plan to attend if you or someone close to you is affected by Parkinson’s disease. The meeting will be hosted inside the WHC’s Carstensen-Gruben (CG) Room.

Friday, April 18

• The Waverly Area Veterans Post is hosting a cod fish dinner with curbside pick-up slated for 5-6 p.m. and dine-in service from 5:30-7 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made by telephoning (319) 483-9287. The WAVP is located at 1400 Fourth St. NW.

• The Waverly Public Library Pokémon Club meets every Monday from 5-7 p.m. to play the famous trading card game Pokémon. Bring your cards to battle, trade or just show off. All ages are welcome.

• On Thursday, April 24, from 6-8 p.m., the “Welcome to Medicare†two-hour seminar will be offered free of charge by Waverly Health Center SHIIP counselors. The event is being hosted inside the Tendrils Rooftop Garden at WHC. Attendees to the April 24 seminar are asked to please register by April 16 by calling (319) 483-1360.

• The Waverly Area Veterans Post is hosting the AMVETS steak fry, with grilling dine-in from 5:30-7 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made any evening from 4-8 p.m. by telephoning 319-483-9287. The reservation deadline is 2 p.m. Saturday. The menu is sirloin, rib eye, New York strip, filet mignon, Iowa chop or chicken breast for meat and baked potato and salad.
