Kinnick Scott, an incoming freshman at Denver High School, competed against some of Iowa’s top middle and high school runners at the Iowa Association of Track Coaches’ Annual Outdoor Track & Field Championships held Saturday, June 7, at Trojan Field on the campus of Iowa City West High School.
The state track and field meet was held from May 22-24 down at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Several area teams competed, as the Denver boys and the Nashua-Plainfield girls came in third.

The high school track and field state qualifying meets took place on Thursday, May 15. Across the state all teams were in action to determine who will be representing their school at the state tournament beginning on Thursday, May 22. The Janesville and Clarksville boys and girls track teams competed at the Iowa Star Conference track meet on Thursday, May 8 in Baxter. The Wildcat girls finished as runner-ups with 100 points, and the Wildcat boys finished third with 75 points.
The Waverly-Shell Rock boys and girls track and field teams hosted the first ever “W-SR Track Night†on Thursday, May 8 at Go-Hawk Stadium. The event saw both teams compete in individual and co-ed relay events, as well as a few non-traditional events.
The Denver boys and girls track teams competed at the North Iowa Cedar League Conference Meet on Thursday, May 8. The boys took home the conference championship, while the girls placed 14th.

The Janesville and Clarksville boys and girls track and field teams travelled to participate at the Nashua-Plainfield Coed Invitational. The Wildcats finished second in the girls team race, while the boys finished third. The Huskies also came out on top for both the girls and second for the boys.
This year at the Iowa High School State Track and Field Meet, the IGHSAU Track and Field Hall of Fame class of 2025 will be inducted. Amongst those inducted will be former W-SR athlete Rachel Bishop (formerly Rachel Peth). Bishop will be the first W-SR athlete inducted into the IGHSAU Hall of Fame in any sport.
The Waverly-Shell Rock boys track and field team won their home meet, the Dave Sage Boys Track Meet, on Thursday, April 10. The Go-Hawks finished with 201 team points, which was 44 more points the rest of the field.
The Clarksville girls track and field team may be one of the smallest in the state with just seven athletes. However, according to Head Coach Darren Bohlen, you shouldn't mistake low numbers for a lack of skill. Three of the seven members of the team have state tournament experience.

Honor Hovenga is the name to watch for the Janesville girls track and field team in 2025. The returning state qualifier will lead a team of many young athletes for the Wildcats.
The Nashua-Plainfield boys track team will have no shortage of athletes to choose from this year. According to Head Coach Chase Sudol, the team has 46 guys on the team, each of whom are ready to work for success.
It was a historic year for the Nashua-Plainfield girls track team. The Huskies finished second in class 1A at the 2024 state meet, just three points away from a state championship.
