The Independence Police Department arrested an Independence man Monday, April 28, for allegedly defrauding an Arizona federal program.
Timothy Alan Close was arrested and charged following an almost year-long investigation that entailed searches into bank records, cell phone records, and his residence after the Independence Police Department was notified by the State of Arizona of the suspected fraud.
It was found that Close had fraudulently received over $18,000 from the State of Arizona’s Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, a program used to help Arizona residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Close was charged with Theft — 1st Degree, a charge punishable of up to 10 years.
The Independence Police Department was assisted by the State of Arizona Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program.
