An Osage man has died after losing control of his motorcycle near Janesville on Tuesday afternoon.

Iowa State Patrol reported the driver of the 2008 Harley Davidson was southbound in the inside lane of Hwy. 218 near 195 to Janesville. The driver lost control, and the bike entered the median, coming to rest in the median debris, about 4:45 p.m.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. Iowa State Patrol released his identity as 44-year-old Robert E. Detmering III of Osage.

The report narrative says: “Debris from the motorcycle struck a white Jeep traveling in the inside lane of northbound 218. There was minimal damage to this vehicle.â€

The Jeep is not listed as a vehicle involved in the accident.

Sgt. Michelle Beck with Iowa State Patrol Post 9 in Cedar Falls was not on duty Tuesday night but said that the motorcycle did not collide with a Jeep that was mentioned in the accident report, contrary to what some third parties were reporting.

“It was a single-vehicle fatality accident,†Beck said. “The Jeep sustained property damage from debris as a result of the accident.â€
