An Urbandale resident has died, and two from Waverly and three from Des Moines were injured, when two vehicles collided south of Tripoli on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 23.

According to the Iowa State Patrol report, Lal Pui Puia Sai Lo, 47, of Des Moines, was driving east on 190th Street in a 2022 Toyota Tacoma and failed to yield at a posted stop sign. Trivona Drewis, 82, of Waverly was heading south on Piedmont Avenue in a Ford F150 and struck the driver’s side of the Tacoma, shortly after 1:30 p.m.

From the Des Moines-area vehicle, Urbandale resident Lungawia Chalthleng, 41, was listed as a fatality, ISP reported. Chalthleng was taken to the state medical examiner by Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home. Esther Sui Iang, 47, of Des Moines, was airlifted to MercyOne in Mason City. Neither was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

The other four had their seat belts on in the crash and were all taken to Allen Hospital in Waterloo, the report said. The driver, Sai Lo, and Hming Chunga, 51, of Des Moines, were transported by Sumner Ambulance. From the Waverly vehicle, Drewis and passenger Marvin Drewis, 83, went with Denver Ambulance.

Readlyn and Tripoli Fire Departments, Bremer County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation, and Del’s Auto Repair towing assisted.
